The EPA Lead-Based Paint Renovation, Repair and Painting Program Rule (RRP)

The EPA Lead-Based Paint Renovation, Repair and Painting Program Rule (RRP) is a federal regulatory program aimed at protecting against lead-based paint hazards associated with renovation, repair and painting activities. It pertains to residential houses, apartments, and child-occupied facilities such as schools and day-care centers built before 1978. This rule applies to residential property owners and managers, general contractors and special trade contractors such as painters, plumbers, carpenters and electricians.

This program calls for workers to be trained to use lead-safe work practices and requires companies to be EPA-certified. These requirements will become effective April 22, 2010.
